President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the Memorial Day ceremony

On October 6, Turkmenistan traditionally marks a mournful date - Memorial Day. It is the day of honoring the heroes fallen on the battlefields of all wars, as well as the victims of the Ashgabat catastrophic earthquake of 1948. In the mournful ceremony of laying flowers to the Memorial complex «Halkhakydasy» President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part.

…In mournful silence, the leader of nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov heads towards the grandiose monument «Ruhytagzym» to pay tribute to the memory of all those who fell in the earthquake of 1948.

The leader of nation laid also wonderful garlands of autumnal flowers to the foot of the monument «Milletinogullary» in the eternal memory of brave sons of the Turkmen land.

The President of Turkmenistan laid a wreath to the monument «Bakyşöhrat», erected in honor of Turkmen soldiers who fell in the battle with fascism and the heroes who sacrificed their lives to defend freedom of their native land.

Following the head of state, senior officials of the Mejlis, members of the government, khyakims of velayats and Ashgabat city, heads of military and law-enforcement bodies, ministries and departments, heads of foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan, representatives of social organizations, foreign companies, elders, youths, citizens and guests of the Turkmen capital laid garlands and flowers to the monuments. In a matter of minutes, numerous bouquets cover the marble tiles at the foots of monuments.

After the flower-laying ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the event attendees proceeded to a special premise for making sadaqat.

There, Addressing the people assembled, the leader of nation said that guided by the sacred traditions and humane principles of our people to remember and honor the memory of the deceased people, defenders and heroes of Motherland, with a view of amalgamating the memorial dates and remembering the victims of the Gokdepe battle and catastrophic earthquake of Ashgabat in 1948, the decision was adopted on establishing October 6 as the date for annual observance of Memorial Day.

In this connection, we today hold the remembrance ceremony in the Memorial Complex erected in honor of our heroes, who gave their lives at the battlefields of all wars, in honor of our compatriots who became victims of Ashgabat earthquake of 1948, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov continued,  having stressed that the Complex – an incarnation of the people’s memory, dreams and wishes, hopes of our glorious fathers and grandfathers - is a symbol of deep honor and reverence of our grateful generations before the matchless heroism and valor of our brave ancestors.

Further, the President of Turkmenistan gave the floor to the mufti of the country who read the public prayer “tebyarek”, and then a memorial sadaqat was held.

On that day, the memorial ceremonies and sadaqats were made both in the capital and all velayats of Turkmenistan.
