President of Turkmenistan received the President of the Asian Development Bank
On September 21, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov received Takehiko Nakao, the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Having expressed the intention of the largest regional financial structure to expand bilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan, Mr. Takehiko Nakao noted the perspective of consolidation of business relations with our country, which has colossal economic and resource potential and proven as responsible and reliable partner in the world arena.
During the meeting, the Head of the State and his guest shared the views on priority directions of bilateral cooperation, discussed opportunities of further expansion of productive relation aimed at perspective and in the context of most important projects of national and regional significance.
President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov indicated the constructive character of the partnership with the authoritative financial organization, having stressed that the Asian Development Bank acts as Transactional Advisor of construction project of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project.
Effective collaboration on the within-said project will contribute to the socio-economic development not only of participating countries in the project, but the states of the region in general. According to the forecasts, subject to successful realization of this project, it will offer immense economic benefits to Afghanistan and to create over 12,000 new jobs there. In this connection, the Head of the State noted that the Decree on concluding agreements with the Islamic Development Bank for financing of construction of TAPI gas main in the territory of Turkmenistan was signed.
In his turn, Mr. Nakao stated the Asian Development Bank’s intention to provide financial support to the ongoing large investment projects, initiated by the Turkmen Leader, having characterized them as economically advantageous for the region’s countries.
Having touched on the subject of partnership in transport and communication sphere, the head of ADB highlighted that construction of railway corridor Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Tajikistan will provide favourable conditions for increase of commodity turnover between participating countries and entire Eurasian continent. The guest said that consolidation of partners’ relations in this direction seems to be very perspective.
Touching upon the subject of partnership in transport and communications field, the head of the ADB highlighted that the construction railway corridor Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan will create favorable conditions for higher trade turnover between the participating countries and for the development of the entire Eurasian continent. The guest said that consolidation of partner relations in this direction seems to be very perspective.
Taking the opportunity, the Head of the State invited the President of the Asian Development Bank to participate in the Global Conference for Sustainable Transport System, to be held in Ashgabat at the end of the running year by the decision of the Secretary General of the United Nations.
The electric power industry was designated as an important area of bilateral cooperation. In this connection, the Leader of nation noted that our country plans to increase electric power supplies to Afghanistan on favorable terms. Recognizing the vast possibilities for efficient consolidation of partnership between Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank, the Head of the State stressed our country’s readiness to study new proposals for cooperation presented by the ADB.
At the end of the meeting, the President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and the President of the Asian Development Bank Takehiko Nakao expressed confidence in further promotion of mutually beneficial partnership, built on the principles of trust and mutual interests.
