Session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan

On June 10, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov convened a regular Cabinet session to discuss the important issues of state life, and to adopt a number of documents.

Having announced the session agenda, the nation’s leader gave the floor to Cabinet Deputy Chairman B. Hojamammedov to inform about the organization of events to be held in the framework of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Council of the Heads of Statistical Services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

As reported, by a decision of the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, its 55th meeting, as well as forums on agricultural statistics would take place in Ashgabat this year (September 6-8). In this connection, a draft Resolution on the upcoming meeting was presented to the head of state for consideration.

Our state, the leader of nation stressed, will continue to enhance and promote the traditional relations of friendship, good neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation with Afghanistan, to directly participate in the peaceful settlement of the situation in the fraternal country, provide strong support and necessary humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

Having signed the Resolution, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov gave the vice-premier a number of concrete commissions concerning an agenda of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Afghan Commission meeting.

The progress of seasonal agri-works, including the grain-harvesting campaign ongoing in the regions, as well as the fulfillment of assignments given by the head of state on increased production of fruit, vegetable, and cucurbitaceous crops in the country were in the center of the report made by Cabinet Deputy Chairman R. In his turn, Cabinet Deputy Chairman B. Atdaev informed about preparations for an exhibition of building materials of the Republic of Turkey, to be held in Ashgabat on June 16-18.

Cabinet Deputy Chairperson G. Mammedova delivered a report on preparations for Culture Days of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkmenistan to be held in Ashgabat on June 14-16, the International Scientific Conference and Exhibition of Decorative and Applied Arts “Turkmenistan – the country with rich spiritual and cultural heritage” with the participation of scientists from the CIS countries to take place in Dashoguz on June 16-17 as part of the city’s year as the 2016 CIS Cultural Capital.

Having expressed confidence that the upcoming Culture Days of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkmenistan would contribute to strengthening the fruitful Turkmen-Kyrgyz relations, which are based on the long-standing traditions of friendship and meet the interests of the two countries’ nations, the head of state instructed to ensure a high organizational level of the event.

Having pointed out that cooperation in the transport and communications sector takes on added importance under the present-day conditions as a crucial factor of global sustainable development, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov mentioned the sector as one of the key segments of global economy, which directly contribute to the effectiveness and equilibrium of world economic relations. Turkmenistan takes an active position on the issues of international cooperation in this area, including within the United Nations, while putting forward concrete initiatives and implementing large infrastructure projects on transnational transit-transport corridors jointly with foreign partners.

Stressing the significance of the upcoming forum, aimed to make a meaningful contribution to developing the mutually beneficial international cooperation in this strategic field, the head of state gave the vice-premier a number of specific instructions concerning a high degree of organization of the Conference, careful examination and timely tackling of all the related issues.

The measures aimed to implement the Turkmenistan-UN Partnership for Development Framework for 2016-2020 were the key issues the report of Cabinet Deputy Chairman, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov was centered on.

To carry out the within-said Framework and the Action Plan, Turkmenistan seeks to undertake different national-level projects in cooperation with UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, and other UN agencies.

In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals, which our country had adopted as a full UN member state, a draft Agreement was worked out to implement constructive initiatives of Turkmenistan within the UN. It was submitted to the nation’s leader for consideration.

Summing up the report, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov confirmed our country’s commitment to the strategic partnership with the UN in the interests of universal peace, well-being and prosperity.

After approving the draft Action Plan and Agreement, the nation’s leader noted the enormous potential available for closer productive cooperation with the UN, given the present-day situation. In this connection, the head of Turkmenistan assigned the Foreign Minister to take all necessary measures to successfully implement the said Plan, and the

Turkmenistan-UN Partnership for Development Framework for 2016-2020 on the whole. This will further the effective bilateral cooperation built on a long-term basis.

During the session, the President of Turkmenistan signed the Ukase on appointing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Malaysia Ya.Mammedov as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of our country to the State of Brunei Darussalam.

The Cabinet session also addressed a number of other issues, and adopted the relevant resolutions.
