Security level of Turkmen manat is further strenthened
The Central Bank of Turkmenistan has issued the new modified specimen banknotes of 2014 in denominations of one, fifty and hundred manats. The innovation was undertaken to upgrade the security features and improve the visual elements of security of the national currency which was put into circulation on November 1, 1993.
In whole, the color and design of the notes remain unchanged. Unlike the previous notes, new banknotes have far greater degree of security against any kind of counterfeits. First of all, they all have a watermark and electrotype produced with the use of the handmade matrix. The faintly discernible areas of light and shade are achieved by changes in the thickness of paper. The watermark on new banknotes carries the effigies of great historical personalities who won fame for the Turkmen nation - Togrul bek Turkmen (1-manat note), Gorkut ata Turkmen (50-manat note) and Oguz Khan (100-manat note). The watermark includes the contrasting light and dark tones clearly visible if to hold the bill up to the light. The electrotype bears the effigies of a crescent with five stars; it has high degree of transparency and is also visible when held up to the light.
Besides, the new specimen banknotes have also the improved built-in threds contain the upgraded security thread with clear-text – “solid” (1-manat note), “color-shifting Starbright” (50- and 100-manat notes). The element is visible only when the banknote is held up to the light and is not liable to reproduction by copying machines and electronic scanning. On all the banknotes there is also an “iridescent stripe” printed with a special ink which has a golden tint. Changing the angle of inclination, one can see either the carpet patterns or the denominational value of the note.
All the current notes in circulation - in the denomination of 1 manat issued in 2009 and 2012, as well as of 50 and 100 manat bills issued in 2009 - remain to be lawful money in the territory of our country.
